We took off this morning for the border. Leaving Casa Grande we hit I-8 west and went to Gila Bend where we ate lunch.. Afterwards we took Arizona Hway 85 south. It goes through such notable places as Ajo, Why, and others.

Finally arriving at Lukeville, we had mail to pick up, send outgoing mail, make last minute phone calls, and purchase Mexican Liability Insurance on the motorhome.
I had planned on videoing the border crossing with a newly purchased web cam which I had set up the night before. It had worked perfectly. When we got ready to cross I hooked up and tried for 20-30 minutes trying to get it to work……Never could, so I did take a few still shots through the windshield as we crossed and down the road to Puerto Penasco.

After accomplishing these task and taking a quick inventory of anything else we may need to do before we crossed the border, we decided we were as ready as we could be..

At 2:30pm we rolled through the border and praying for the “passé” signal so we would not have to stop to be searched….Prayers were answered and we got the go ahead and went on through the border town of Sonoyta.

Once getting out of Sonoyta it’s pretty much the same scenery for about 65 miles to Puerto Penasco. Desert and more desert.

We pulled into Hacienda De Marcos RV Park about 4:pm. Familiar dogs greeted us and immediately we felt at home.

Bonnie, the owner was not there, as she had already emailed us she would be in Phoenix this day picking up her daughter at the airport…

We set up the motor home and took off into town hardly able to contain ourselves at seeing some old friends. We had to make one little stop before looking them up. I mentioned buying liability insurance in Lukeville, but that was just one days worth to get us to Puerto Penasco. Once arriving here I purchased insurance on Connie’s and mine drivers license. It’s cheaper long term and anything we drive will be covered. You can only buy this in Mexico….It’s not as complicated as I make it sound….

Back to the real reason for coming into town. (we are about 7 miles out).

We first went to Pasqualas home where we found she was not at. She was working on the beach somewhere according to her neighbors. So, we took off to Choya Mall on Rodeo Drive. Now that sounds like some fancy address but it is just what some people named it for a little humor I guess.

It is a street with all the little shops down both sides full of all that tourist souvenirs that You just have to have. You know, the T shirts , the hats, the sea shells, iron wood, and all matter of homemade crafts.

This is where our Aztec Indian family has a shop with a lot of them goodies . When we approached their shop , Clementine , Amancio’s sister spotted us and ran inside just screaming. Soon Amancio appeared with a big grin on his face. We hugged these two until we tired out and then began catching up on all the news. And lots of news their was.
The main thing though that everyone was in good health and Mama & Papa was in their village below Mexico City, but would be returning to Puerto Penasco in 2 weeks. About the time we were ready to go and check on Pasquala again, in walks another sister of Amancio’s. Leticia , her husband Oscar, son Oscar jr. and Eduardo. More hugs and catching up on the news was in order so we stayed around awhile longer with them.

Before we could get gone, Amancio pronounced that in a couple of days he would gather all the family (about 30) and we would have carne asada. For those who have never had Amancio’s carne asada I do feel sorry for You. For us lucky ones who have had it, You know what I’m talking about. It is delicious….
