After having to fix a water leak on the hotwater heater  we headed out for White Sands New Mexico.

Highway 70 East takes you the White Sands Missile Range where after some proper paperwork is submiited you can go on the base as far as the museum, which is free by the way.

They really have a nice museum and it is not all concerning missles. A lot of displays on local culture and area history..Really nice displays.

But I was here to see the manly stuff.....stuff that blows other stuff up..

They did have some of that too, as seen in the photos below.

After looking at all that destructive equipment a ride on down the road to the White Sands National Monument was needed.

It was like driving through snow covered hills, but it is white gysum sand. The picnic area looked like something out of an alien movie, with all that shiny, curvy things.

And of course I took lots of scenery shots going down the road. Too many I guess, but I really like the vastness of this country, and besides someone who looks at this website may not ever have seen this kind of country and find as interesting as me.

I also have  a couple of photos of an Oryx......now that animal is from Africa and you can click on this link if you want to know how they became planted here in White Sands.
